With Spring upon us and summer right around the corner, we want to give you a list of the best springtime activities for you and the family! Whether you’ve just moved to Northern Colorado, you’re relocating to a new neighborhood, or you’re looking for something fun to do on the weekends, this list will guide you in the right direction.

Hiking

Here in Northern Colorado, there are hiking trails everywhere! One of the best places to find information on local hiking trails is at alltrails.com.  A basic membership is free and you can keep track of and rate each hike that you do.  Some of the greats include Horsetooth Falls or Horsetooth Rock, Devil’s Backbone, and Sheep Mountain Trail.

Bring the family, bring the dogs, and bring the camera as you explore the beautiful outdoors!

Biking

Biking is a great way to get to know Fort Collins. With relatively flat terrain, wide bike lanes, and trails that follow the Poudre River and Spring Creek, biking is a fun way to recreate. Whether you’re exploring Fort Collins’ 285-plus miles of trails or biking in the mountains, you’ll understand why Fort Collins has been named a platinum level bike-friendly city. One trip to Downtown or the local breweries and you’ll see more bikes than cars on the road. Head west to Lory State Park or Horsetooth Mountain Open Space to find mountain biking trails for all skill levels. Visit the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas for information on riding the foothills trails.

Parks

Northern Colorado has a bounty of parks to explore and enjoy.  Right next to the gorgeous Lake Loveland is Benson Sculpture Garden which is a great place to walk with the family or bring a blanket for a picnic!

Further north in Fort Collins is Spring Canyon Community Park, a 100-acre park nestled against the foothills of western Fort Collins that offers an inspiration playground, Colorado’s first universally accessible playground, a 2+ acre dog park complete with a lake for our doggie paddling pals, a free ride course for endless mountain biking fun. Spring Creek and Fossil Creek Trails also connect this park, making it easily accessible by bicycle. This park is perfect for a day of fun with the family. It’s a great way to enjoy Fort Collins’ beautiful spring weather.

Also in Fort Collins is City Park– One of Fort Collins’ oldest parks with an abundance of open grass fields, pathways, and separate playgrounds for the kids. You’ll find Sheldon lake in the center of the park. Families can enjoy feeding the ducks, fishing, walking and watching the animals.

And just 35 miles north of Fort Collins is Terry Bison Ranch, which offers an interactive experience of a Bison Ranch and so much more.

Enjoy the Trading Post Gift Shop, The Senator’s Steakhouse and Brass Buffalo Saloon, Bison Trail tours, a Sunday Lunch Train, Guided Horseback Rides, a Kids Corral, Trout Fishing and an Old Fashioned Photo Studio. Enjoy the day Old-West Style at Terry Bison Ranch.

Museums

Tuesdays-Sundays you can take your kids to explore the Museum of Discovery in Fort Collins, which allows both kids and adults to enjoy themselves in a single, state-of-the-art facility where history, science, music and fun are all wrapped into one experience. Learn about local history in a highly interactive and kid-friendly way, learn how things work in the world by using your imagination and so much more. The Museum of Discovery is a must-see for families. Don’t forget to check out the 360 degree theatre experience at the museum’s Otterbox Digital Dome Theater!

This coming weekend, the Global Village Museum of Arts is opening with a new exhibit showcasing International Utensils. The Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures is dedicated to showcasing international folk art.  Exhibits are created to engage and inspire visitors to learn more about world cultures, people, art, and history. They strive to promote cultural understanding and peace.

A great place to take the kids is The Farm at Lee Martinez Park. They have provided hands-on family fun since 1985. The Farm serves as an educational and interactive experience for Fort Collins residents and visitors.
